Tragedies of 2025: 2025 is becoming one of the most tragic years in Indian history. Stampedes, terror attacks, aviation failures, and several human-made tragedies have put the country’s infrastructure, jurisdiction, public order, and safety to the test. The death toll has shocked the nation in each of the tragedies, and yet every next destruction has turned into something bigger than the last. It's been 6 months since the year started, and 5 major fatalities have already questioned our safety inside our own country. 

Let us tell in detail about the deadliest human tragedies in India in 2025. 

Ahmedabad Plane Crash on 12 June

Air India Flight AI171 took off from Ahmedabad airport for its journey to London Gatwick Airport at 13:38 IST. Seconds after taking off, the flight met a deadly crash into the hostel block of B. J. Medical College. 

The crash killed 241 people on board, including passengers and crew, with a sole survivor from the plane named Ramesh Kumar Vishwas. On the ground, at least 39 people died due to the crash. The tragedy was the first of its kind involving the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, usually known for its safety and sleekness. 

Bengaluru Stampede During IPL Celebration on 4 June 

In a historic win, Royal Challengers Bangalore lifted the IPL 2025 trophy for the first time in 18 years. The occasion called for celebration with news of a victory parade at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, but due to poor crowd management and confusing updates on the victory parade, a major stampede broke out, with 14 dead and 47 injured. 

Pahalgam Terror Attack on 22 April 

The terrorist horror that shook the nation, the Pahalgam Terror attack, claimed the lives of 26 civilians. 

In the attack, Pakistani militants ambushed and shot a group of Hindu terrorists in Baisaran Valley, a popular tourist hotspot. This attack questioned the national security and sovereignty of India, where a group of terrorists could easily travel to a major tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir with no halts at any security checkpoints.

In retaliation, India launched Operation Sidoor, a military operation targeting a major terrorist hideout in PoK.

Gujarat Boiler Blast on 1 April 

The illegal firecracker factory godown on Dhunva Road was engulfed in thick soot and smoke on 1st April when a fire triggered by a boiler blast claimed the lives of 21 people working in the factory. 

Prayag Raj Stampede & Delhi Railway Stampede on 29 January 

The Maha Kumbh mela held from 13 January to 26 February was one of the biggest religious gatherings in the world this year. But two major tragedies struck the devotees, claiming many lives.

On 29 January 2025, during the Mauni Amavasya bathing day, an auspicious time for the holy bath, a large number of pilgrims jostled for space at the Sangam area, leading to a tragic stampede claiming 30 lives and injuring 60. 

On the same day, another stampede took place at Delhi railway station, where devotees bound for Prayagraj fell prey to a stampede, killing 18 pilgrims when a false alarm ensued, causing chaos and confusion.
