X Anand Mahindra Birthday: Times the Billionaire’s Remarks Made It To Headlines & Cracked Everyone Up

Anand Mahindra Birthday:  Indian billionaire and chairman of the Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra, turns 70 years old today. The industrialist has a knack for humour and wits, and lets his rule be known via his social media interactions with his followers. Mahindra has often made it to headlines for his tongue-in-cheek replies to popular debates, his followers daring demands along with motivational forewords on viral inspirational images and videos. His replies in press conferences, replies on Twitter, and posts on social media are a testimony to his quick wit.

On the occasion of his birthday, let’s take a look at the times when he made headlines for his remarks and cracked everyone up.

Mahindra on 90-Work Week Remark

L&T chairman Subhramanyan was under scrutiny of people for remarking that people would work on weekends as well, promoting the concept of a 90-hour work week. Urging his employees to work longer, he said, “How long can you stare at your wife?”

In reply to the comment at the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue, he wittily said, “I love staring at my wife… Don’t ask me how many hours I work.”

HRI over NRI

In another interaction on Twitter with one of his followers, Mahindra has shared photos of the Manhattan skyline celebrating the Fourth of July. The follower asked Mahindra if he was an NRI, to which he quickly replied, saying he is an “HRI” – Heart resident in India visiting family in New York.

Fan asking a car on his birthday

Once, a ‘big fan’ of Anand Mahindra commented on his profile, asking Mahindra to gift him a Mahindra Thar on his birthday.
Mahindra had a clever reply to the user, he tweeted, “Word lesson of the day:

CHUTZPAH /ˈxʊtspə,ˈhʊtspə/ noun…extreme self-confidence or audacity (usually used approvingly)." Love him or hate him, you have to admire Vipul’s chutzpah."

Full marks for chutzpah, Vipul, but unfortunately, I can’t say yes. Mera dhandha bund ho jayega!”

“Madmax Mahindra”

One of the admirers of Mahindra shared a Ghibli trend AI image of him riding the Jawa 42 FJ upon winning the Viewer's Choice Motorcycle of the Year at the Times Drive Auto Summit & Awards. Another user shared another rugged version of Mahindra with the Thar on the post, to which Mahindra amusingly replied, “Are you turning me into Mad Max Mahindra??” A pop culture reference to the Mad Max film series.

Mahindra, unlike the traditional images of a serious and no-nonsense industrialist, comes across as a jovial and fun person who likes to engage with his audience on a more personal level to take their compliments, criticisms, and comedy all with grace.
