Ashok Chavan Family & Education

Ashokrao Shankarrao Chavan was born on October 28, 1958, to the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shankarrao Chavan. His schooling years were spent at St. Xavier’s High School, Fort. he later went on to do a Bachelor’s degree in Science from Hazarimal Jomani College and a Master’s degree in Business Management at BYK College of Commerce.       

Chavan is married to Ameeta Ashok Chavan, and the couple has twin daughters called Srijaya and Sujaya. Ameeta is a current MLA belonging to the Congress party, from the constituency of Bhokar.  

Ashok Chavan Political Career 

Chavan ascended the chair of Maharashtra’s Chief Minister in November 2008 in the aftermath of the Mumbai terror attacks following Vilasrao Deshmukh’s resignation. In the elections of the following year as well, he emerged victorious at the nomination by  Congress President Sonia Gandhi. 

His career as a leader started as a student leader as a University Representative. In 1995 he became the General Secretary of the Congress party marking his initiation in the political career. In 1987, he emerged as the MP from the Congress Party Nanda Lok Sabha constituency. He was then elected as a Member of the Legislative Council in 1992, and in March of the following year, he joined the Maharashtra Legislative Council as Minister of State for Public Works, Urban Development, and Home. 

The years 2003, and 2004 were significant in his reign strengthening his position as the Minister for Transport, Ports, Cultural Affairs, and Protocol. 

 From 2014 to 2019, he served as the President of the  Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee and managed the portfolio of Industries, Mining, Cultural Affairs & Protocol in the Maharashtra cabinet in respective years.    

The son of the veteran Congress leader is now a new member of the Bhartiya Janta Party, after resigning from the Congress. He emphasized that his decision has been independent.  

Ashok Chavan’s Net Worth 

Beyond politics, Chavan has ventured into the field of business of gas distribution and agricultural holdings. Per the reports, he has a net worth of above 50 crores. His land is worth around 2.5 crores with joint possession of around 100 acres of land with his wife. His commercial assets include flats, residential houses, and shopping complexes of an estimated worth of around 36 crores.
