Asthma Treatment Over The Years: The Evolution of Treating Asthma From Ancient Remedies to Modern Medicines

Asthma Treatment: In ancient times, people with asthma would inhale herbal smoke to relieve their dyspnea, frequently using prayers and traditional medicines. Without access to contemporary medications, asthma was treated at home in India centuries ago. A major turning point in the development of medical science occurred in 1956 when Sir David Jack created the metered-dose inhaler, which provided direct, efficient lung treatment with little adverse effects.  In India, inhaler use was still socially stigmatized despite its effectiveness, which frequently deterred patients.

The Evolution of Asthma Treatment

Biologics, which are sophisticated injections that target particular immune responses for patients who are not receptive to inhalers, were introduced in the 2000s and are currently being used with impressive success in prestigious Indian institutions. These days, wearable breathing monitors, air purifiers, smart inhalers, and applications for air quality are all part of asthma management. Social perceptions continue to be a barrier, though, since many patients are embarrassed to use inhalers in public.
