The Indian archer Atanu Das on Thursday qualified for the Tokyo Olympics 2021 individual pre-quarterfinals along with wide Deepika Kumari, after defeating the two times Olympics Gold Medalist Oh Jin Hyek by scoring 10-9.

Born on 5th April 1992, Atanu Das is an Indian Archer and represents India in the Recurve Men’s Individual and Team events. Atanu made his international debut in the year 2008 and is currently at the 17th position in the world ranking.

Atanu Das is married to the current world number 1 archer Deepika Kumari. Atanu did his schooling from Baranagar Narendranath Vidyamandir, Baranagar. Das is currently employed with Bharat Petroleum Sports Promotion Board in Kolkata. 

Atanu Das Sports career:

Atanu won a bronze medal in the World Cup Mixed Team event in 2013 which took place in Colombia, with Deepika Kumari. Being a promising Indian talent, Atanu started archery at the age of 14 and got his coaching from Mithu Da. 

Atanu Das moved to Tata Archery Academy in 2008 where he was trained by Korean coach Lim Chae Wong.

  • Bronze Medal at Recurve Men’s Team, Asian Archery Grand Prix, Thailand (with Rahul Banerjee and Binod Swansi)

  •  Bronze Medal at the Recurve Mixed Team, Asian Archery Grand Prix, Thailand, 2013 (with Bombayla Devi Laishram). 

  • Bronze Medal at the Recurve Men's Individual, Asian Archery Grand Prix, Thailand, 2013.

  • Gold Medal at the Recurve Mixed Team, 3rd Asian Grand Prix, Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2011 (with Rimil Buriuly).

  • Bronze Medalist at the Recurve Men's Team, 3rd Asian Grand Prix, Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2011.
