Cannes 2025: The most esteemed film festival globally, Festival De Cannes, is back with its 78th Edition running from 13th May to 24th May. Each year, India and Indians make attention-grabbing headlines at the festival for their films and fashion. This year, the buzz of an array of film stars making a grand entry at the steps of Palais is apparent, but it is not just the fashion that the world is looking forward to. 

Several Indian films are set to shine at the Cannes Film Festival this year, from a student director’s debut to the screening of a legendary Satyajit Ray film; this year’s Cannes would be nothing short of a spectacle posed by the Indian film fraternity at the film festival.

Indian Film At Cannes 2025

Homebound 

Neeraj Ghaywan's second directorial feature, Homebound, stars Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter, and Vishal Jethwa. What makes this film one of the most anticipated Indian films at Cannes this year is the support of filmmaking legend Martin Scorsese as the executive producer. The film is part of the festival’s Un Certain Regard category and is bankrolled by Karan Johar.

Aranyer Din Ratri 

A legendary entry from India directed by Satyajit Ray with Sharmila Tagore as the lead actor, Aryaner Din Ratri’s restored version will be screened at the film festival this year, with the leading lady of the film, veteran diva Sharmila Tagore, in attendance. 

 

The 1970 film is about four friends who travel to the wilderness for fun and free time. Their interactions with the natives soon hit them with the realization of nothingness amidst a world of social status. 

Tanvi: The Great

A seasoned and globally renowned actor, Anupam Kher, will walk down the red carpet of the French Riviera as a debutant director, bringing his first film to premiere at Cannes. Tanvi: The Great, helmed by Kher, will have its international premiere at the Cannes Film Festival 2025's Marché du Film.

A Doll Made Up Of Clay 

Directed by Kokob Gebrehweria Tesfay, an Ethiopian student at the Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute (SRFTI) in Kolkata, brings a heart-touching story to Cannes with his film ‘A Doll Made Up of Clay’, which is selected for a screening in the La Cinef segment. Written by Tesfay as well, the film is produced by Sahil Manoj Ingle with Uma Kumari as executive producer.
