Relationships between actors and their roles can be very complicated and rarely come down to a simple offer that they accept. Many actors have been able to choose their parts successfully throughout the history of cinema, despite opposition from critics and the public at first, such as Heath Ledger when he played The Joker. Then we have actors who lost their jobs in potentially crucial roles. actors who later regretted the roles they had taken on.

There are many actors who turned down significant roles before later regretting them, but eventually reconsidered them and ended up taking the role, and now have become the epitome of the character, they can’t be replaced with other actors. Here’s a list of some of the most popular characters that were initially rejected by the actors, but later turned out to be a game changer in their acting career.

Chris Evans - Captain America

The opportunity to be a part of the Marvel franchise is a dream opportunity for many actors, with a lot of responsibilities and consequences and fulfilling the expectations of fans, but not everyone is prepared to accept them. One of them was Chris Evans, who had already played superhero roles including Fantastic Four, and had a suspicion that this proposal would be considerably larger. The actor at last said yes and now Captain America plays the most important role in the Marvel Franchise.

Ralph Fiennes - Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Prior to his role in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, actor Ralph Fiennes had been following a totally different acting career route from the children’s book and movie genre. According to some reports, Fiennes was not at all interested when offered the role of Voldemort because he had not read the novels or seen the previous films and felt that such a character was inappropriate for him. He also gave a pass to the role but agreed to play it and now fans actually know him as Voldemort.

Leonardo Di Caprio - Titanic

Titanic will always remain a top-notch choice when we think about romance and with the outstanding performances of Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, become one of the highest-grossing films of all time. But whereas Winslet accepted her role, Di Caprio took some time to decide when he was offered the part of Jack Dawson because this young man was different from the typically troubled characters DiCaprio had played in the past throughout his career. In the end, DiCaprio accepted the offer, and the rest is history.

Alan Rickman - Die Hard

Alan Rickman’s role as Hans Gruber in the action movie Die Hard paved the way for his Hollywood stardom. However, the actor declined the opportunity at the initial time after hearing the script and declaring that he would never perform in an action film as he has always played roles in shows like As You Like It, Troilus, and Cressida. He was ultimately convinced by his agent, who made him realise the importance of receiving such a significant offer just a few days after settling in the US.

Arnold Schwarzenegger - Terminator

James Cameron initially decided to cast Schwarzenegger as Kyle Reese, however, he instantly changed his mind and gave him the part of the Terminator after meeting him in person, which did not immediately appeal to the actor as he was concerned about the audience’s reaction. Schwarzenegger thought it would be detrimental to his career in the long run to play a villain so early on but Cameron was able to persuade him, which eventually made him the star and one of the most iconic roles as ‘T-800’.
