Delhi Fuel Ban: Petrol Pump Owners File Petition Against Unfair Penalties in HC

Delhi Fuel Ban:  Under the efforts to curb Delhi’s pollution, the Rekha Gupta-led government has banned petrol pumps from refueling petrol for vehicles older than 15 years and diesel for vehicles older than 10 years.

However, the law resulted in unfair penalties in the private fuel pump entities that filed a petition in the high court, saying that they are being unfairly fined for the job of law enforcers, which they cannot do.

In their petition, they have argued that the violation of the new law, active from 1 July, penalised them under Section 192, which does not even apply to private fuel stations. Petrol pump owners in the Delhi Petrol Dealers Association further said that the government’s action is “manifestly arbitrary, irrational, unreasonable, and disproportionate.”
