Farm Laws:
Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu has made a controversial statement before the assembly elections. Taking a jibe at the opposition Shiromani Akali Dal, Navjot Singh Sidhu during a press conference said that Badal has laid the foundation of all three black agricultural laws, against which the farmers are protesting.
Referring to the Punjab Contract Farming Act 2013, which was passed in the Vidhan Sabha during the tenure of former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Sidhu said that farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Price Assurance and Agricultural Services Agreement Act, 2020 both are the same. He claimed that there was no mention of MSP in the act which was suggested to the assembly by the Badal government.
Adding further, Sidhu alleged that these laws were made only for the benefit of the corporates. The former flamboyant batsman also accused SAD leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal of signing the draft agriculture ordinances when she was a Union minister. Sidhu said, "During the all-party meeting, a resolution on agricultural laws was passed. Which was later withdrawn by Sukhbir Singh Badal. Minutes after the meeting, he supported the ordinances and opposed the motion, arguing that there was nothing wrong in the ordinance."
The Punjab Congress chief has taken a very tough stand on the issue. He has even asked his government to repeal agricultural laws completely.
