Business News: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman spoke at the inaugural session of the Kautilya Economic Conclave 2023 in Delhi and raised concern about the declining efficiency of international multilateral organisations. She made the point that organisations like the UN, Security Council, WHO, and WTO are not functioning as effectively as they should. She said, “Globally, we don’t need to hesitate any longer to say that the multilateral institutions whether it is the UN, Security Council or the WHO, WTO are less than effective from where they were made into institutions. Because they have become less effective, what we took for granted is no longer to be taken for granted. We thought if there was a disruption somewhere, the WTO would come into play, if there is a huge pandemic, the WHO would come into play.”
The Finance Minister further stated that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led administration is aware of the debt crisis and has implemented fiscal management to guarantee that future generations are not burdened.
