The Oscar-winning films of all time are some of the best films of all time. Every year, the best and brightest in Hollywood gather at a star-studded event, The Academy Awards, to celebrate their greatest accomplishments. 

In The 95th Academy Awards, we witnessed one of the most historic moments when India created history by winning two Oscars, one for RRR and other for The Elephant Whisperers. Here is the list of top 5 Oscar nominated movies you should watch before you die.

Top Gun: Maverick

Top Gun: Maverick is a 2022 American action drama film directed by Joseph Kosinski and written by Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, and Christopher McQuarrie, based on Peter Craig and Justin Marks’ stories. The film is a sequel to Top Gun, which was released in 1986. Tom Cruise reprises his role as Maverick, a naval aviator. It was based on the characters created by Jim Cash and Jack Epps Jr. in the original film. Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, and Val Kilmer also appear in the film. Maverick confronts his past in the film while preparing a group of younger Top Gun graduates, including the son of his late best friend, for a dangerous mission.

The Elephant Whisperers

The Elephant Whisperers is a Tamil-language short documentary film directed by Kartiki Gonsalves in her directorial debut in 2022. The documentary is a collaboration between India and the United States, and is about the bond that forms between a couple and an orphaned baby elephant named Raghu who is entrusted to their care. The film, produced by Guneet Monga’s Sikhya Entertainment, had its world premiere on November 9, 2022, at the Doc NYC Film Festival. It won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Film at the 95th Academy Awards, making it the first Indian film to do so.

Everything Everywhere All At Once

Everything Everywhere All at Once is a 2022 American absurdist comedy-drama film written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (aka “Daniels”), who also co-produced it with Anthony and Joe Russo. It follows Evelyn Wang, a Chinese-American immigrant who must connect with parallel universe versions of herself to prevent a powerful being from destroying the multiverse while being audited by the IRS. Michelle Yeoh plays Evelyn, and the cast also includes Stephanie Hsu, Ke Huy Quan, Jenny Slate, Harry Shum Jr., James Hong, and Jamie Lee Curtis. 

Avatar: The Way of Water

James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water is a 2022 American epic science fiction film directed and produced by him. He co-wrote the screenplay with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, based on a story by Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno. It is the sequel to Avatar (2009) and the second installment in the Avatar film series, and it is distributed by 20th Century Studios. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Dileep Rao, and Matt Gerald reprise their roles from the first film, with Sigourney Weaver playing a new character. 

All That Breathes

Shaunak Sen’s documentary All That Breathes is a finalist for the Oscar Award for Best Documentary Feature Film. The story revolves around the lives of two brothers, Nadeem and Saud, who spend their time in Delhi’s basement operating a makeshift hospital for birds.
