According to sources, customs authorities allegedly discovered “ganja and utensils used for the consumption of ganja” in Hadid and her friend’s luggage immediately after their private jet arrived at the airport. However, after this, Gigi shared a post on Instagram with the caption, “All’s well that ends well.”

Vogue Italia Cover Controversy 

Cultural appropriation allegations were one of the early difficulties that Gigi Hadid encountered. She attracted attention in 2017 when she appeared on the cover of Vogue Italia with a substantially darker skin tone. As soon as the cover appeared on Vogue Italia’s Instagram, social media users criticised it, pointing out how significantly different Hadid’s appearance on the cover was from how she appeared in real life. Many people had strong opinions about the photo’s apparent manipulation, and some accused Hadid of using blackface. Many argued that this was an improper and insensitive appropriation of cultural components for the benefit of fashion. However, Gigi apologised in response to the criticism and said, “I want to address this for those who were offended by the editing/retouching/coloring of the cover. Please know that things would have been different if my control of the situation was different. Regardless, I want to apologize because my intention is never to diminish those concerns or take opportunities away from anyone else.”

Buddha-Inspired Facial Expression Controversy

Another notable scandal occurred in 2016 during New York Fashion Week when Gigi was caught on camera mimicking a facial expression influenced by Buddha. The model held out a cookie with a Buddha’s face on it while appearing to squint her eyes, leading to accusations that she was making fun of Asian people. In the controversial video, Hadid grins and takes up a Buddha-shaped cookie, placing it up to her face as she squints her eyes. Fans were outraged when Gigi Hadid posed next to a Buddha cookie. As soon as the video went viral, fans were outraged by the video because many felt the behaviour was insulting and disrespectful of the Buddhist tradition. Following the backlash, Gigi issued an apology and said that it “hurts her” to hurt anyone and that she wants all of her fans to know that “it was never [her] intent to offend anyone through [her] actions.”

Selena Gomez Controversey

Apparently, Gigi was also included in the bitter battle between Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber for betraying Selena with Kendall Jenner. It was reported that Kendall Jenner and Gigi intentionally took Selena on a Dubai Vacation to give Hailey and Justin some time to spend together. Gigi Hadid’s then-boyfriend Cody Simpson, Kendall Jenner, and Selly G all went on a vacation in 2015 in Dubai. Some fans also speculated that Hailey Baldwin and Justin Bieber’s 2014 New Year’s Eve celebration may have been facilitated by Kendall Jenner. 

Varun Dhawan Controversy

During the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre grand opening, many Bollywood and Hollywood stars attended the ceremony combining fashion and traditions altogether. Stars including Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and many others. Hollywood stars including Gigi Hadid, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and many others also attended the star-studded event. On the second day, actor Varun Dhawan was seen performing on the stage, he then went on in the crowd, took Gigi Hadid to the stage, lifted her, and kissed her during the performance. As soon as the video went viral, netizens slammed Varun for making Gigi uncomfortable and kissing her without consent. The video created a spark among the fans, and both Varun and Gigi were quick to shut the trolls as Varun claimed that the incident was planned in advance, and Gigi posted a photo of Varun and herself and thanked him for making her Bollywood dream come true.
