What is Sugarcane FRP:

The Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of sugarcane has been increased to Rs 290 per quintal. Consumer Affairs Minister Piyush Goyal said in the press conference that the FRP of sugarcane is based on a 10% recovery.

Goyal said that if the farmer's recovery is 9.5%, then the FRP will be Rs 275 per quintal. However, our farmers have enhanced the recovery with the help of state-of-the-art technology. That is, the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of sugarcane has been fixed at Rs 275 for farmers.

He told that last year sugarcane exports are breaking records. Export contracts worth about 7 million tonnes were done. Of these 55 million tonnes were exported while 1.5 million tonnes are in the pipeline.

The Union Minister told the media that 40 thousand crore rupees are coming every year from the ethanol sector. Sugar prices will not increase. The use of ethanol is increasing rapidly. Mixing of 20 percent ethanol in petrol will start in a few years. Piyush Goyal said that the FRP of sugarcane has been increased by Rs 5 per quintal.

It must be noted that a day earlier on Tuesday, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh assured the farmers demanding a hike in sugarcane prices that the price of this cash crop would be increased to Rs 360 per quintal, after which the farmers called off their agitation. took. The Chief Minister had announced a hike in the State Advisory Price (SAP) of sugarcane by Rs 35 per quintal after a meeting with farmer leaders here.

Farmers had blocked a national highway and railway tracks in Jalandhar. Farmers said that the hike announced recently by the state government was inadequate as their cost of production has gone up.

Their demand was also supported by state Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu, who advocated better prices for the farmers of Punjab. The farmers' agitation had entered its fifth day on Tuesday.
