Health Facts: Is Detoxification of Liver a Myth? Know What is Liver Detoxification and Expert Recommendations

Health Facts: Recently, the concept of “liver detox” or “liver detoxification” has grown in popularity on social media. However, medical professionals stress that the concept of externally cleaning the liver is a fiction. The liver, one of the body’s five main organs, is naturally responsible for detoxification. It works constantly to filter and cleanse the blood, digesting everything ingested from the intestines, both nutrients and toxic chemicals. The liver works continuously, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, deciding what to keep and what to discard.  Regardless of its effectiveness, preserving liver health is critical.

How to Detoxify Liver?

Individuals should have a healthy lifestyle to improve their liver health. This involves eating a well-balanced diet, minimising greasy and high-carbohydrate foods while increasing protein intake, exercising regularly, and abstaining from alcohol. Self-medication should be avoided entirely, especially if liver-related symptoms or abnormal test findings appear. Consultation with a qualified liver expert, such as a hepatologist or gastroenterologist, is recommended.  Misleading cures posted online, such as detox drinks or untested supplements, should not be trusted. The liver is naturally prepared to detoxify the body; additional interventions are unneeded and potentially hazardous without medical supervision.
