ICMR Warns Excessive Salt Intake Fueling A Silent Epidemic In India, Poses Major Health Risk

Salt Intake Warning: The  Indian Council of Medical Research's National Institute of Epidemiology (ICMR) has revealed that excessive salt consumption by Indians poses a higher risk of health diseases like high blood pressure, heart diseases, kidney disorders, and stroke. 

According to the guidelines of the World Health Organisation, a person should ideally intake 5 grams of salt a day, but in India urban population consumes about 9.2 grams per day, whereas the rural population consumes about 5.6 grams per day.

The scientist at ICMR has also shared a solution by looking for low-sodium alternatives for salt to make a meaningful switch.
