India’s Richest Women:  Savitri Jindal has become India’s Richest Woman overtaking Ajim Premji of Wipro. She is chairperson of the O.P. Jindal Group and a politician from Hisar, Haryana. Among the many titles she holds, one is of the president of the esteemed Maharaja Agrasen Medical College, Agroha.  

Savitri Jindal Family 

Savitri Jindal belongs to the north-eastern state of India, Assam where she was born on 20 March 1940. She did her higher secondary education from Allahabad in 1964

In the 1970s she married the founder of the Jindal Group, Om Prakash Jindal with whom she has 9 children, 4 sons and 5 daughters.    

After the unfortunate demise of her husband O.P. Jindal in a helicopter crash, she ascended the chair of his husband as the head of the O.P. Jindal Group. 

Political Career 

Jindal belongs to the Indian National Congress party, was a Minister of the Haryana Government, and a member of the legislative assembly of Haryana. She represented the Hisar constituency, which her late husband earlier represented.       

She assumed the office of Minister of Power till 2010 and served as the Minister of State for Revenue and Disaster and Urban Local Bodies and Housing.  

After her defeat in the election of 2014, she was re-elected in 2009 and became the cabinet minister of Haryana in 2013. 

Net Worth

Savitri Jindal has pulled ahead of the chairperson of Wipro Limited with a net worth of $25.0B currently as stated by the Bloomberg Billionaire Index whereas Ajim Premji is behind with $24 Billion. Jindal’s position in the world ranking of billionaires Jindal has jumped to 61st place, and Premji is not far behind at 66th place.

Assets 

In the list of moveable assets she has cash of around Rs. 37 thousand, her deposits in banks and other financial institution makes a total of over Rs. 7 crores, jewelry of around Rs. 10+ crores, and her shares and bonds make up over Rs. 37 crores.

Her immovable assets include agricultural land, commercial buildings, and residential buildings with an estimated worth of Rs. 57 crores.     

Savitri Jindal took over the O.P. Jindal Group with a lot of eyes on her waiting for her to prove her mettle, which she did with utmost grace, strength, and intellect. She now retreats in philanthropic ventures initiated by her late husband and the Jindal group.
