World Science Day: Find some interesting, mind-blowing and weird facts about Science here

Today, the whole world is celebrating International Science Day to mark the importance and contribution of Science in our daily life. International Science Day is celebrated every year on November 10.  It was proclaimed in 2001 by UNESCO and in 2002, was celebrated for the first time ever.

On the International Day of Science, learn some interesting and mind-blowing facts about science:

1) Space is absolutely silent place as there is no atmosphere in space through which the sound can travel

2) There is a scientifics reason behind the waves and tides experienced by the ocean. The change in waves and tides of oceans from high to low and vice versa is because of the changing gravitational pull of Moon and Sun. 

3) The size of Sun is 3,00,000 (3 lakh) times larger than the Earth. Hence, one million Earths can fit inside the Sun.

4) The light from Sun takes around 8 minutes to reach the Earth

5) One cannot walk on planets like Uranus, Neptune, Saturn or Jupiter as these planets don’t have hard surface and are made up of gases unlike Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars which are made up of rocks.

6) The largest living structure on Earth is the Great Barrier Reef, which is present in Australia. It is composed of coral islands and reefs and is spreaded across 2000 km.

7) Your body takes around 12 hours to digest the food you eat

8) About 1 litre saliva is produced by your mouth each day

9) If the Human Lungs are spreaded out, they will cover around 75 sq. km area, which is half od the size of a tennis court. 

10) Stirrup is the smallest bone of Human body. It is present in the middle of the ear and is only 2.8 mm long.

11) If the DNA of human is uncoiled and combined, it will be equal to twice the diameter of Earth. 

12) Human Teeth are as strong as Shark Teeth

13) Your heart beats around 1,00,000 times in a day.

14) As per the Scientists, Human Nose can detect around 3 trillion different scents

15) An adult has 206 bones but a new born child has 300 bones. As the Child grows, some bones fuse together.

16) Without the presence of Saliva, the food cannot be tasted as the taste buds can help one taste the food only when it is dissolved in liquid.

17) Human Brain consists 100 billion nerve cells

18) Universe has more stars than Earth has grains of sand.
