Kalki 2898 AD: Amitabh Bachchan’s first Look as Ashwatthama is enigmatic; Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone reacts

Kalki 2898 AD:  The first look of Amitabh Bachchan as Ashwatthama in the magnum opus, Kalki 2898 AD was unveiled by the filmmakers on Sunday during the KKR vs RCB match. The introductory teaser of Ashwathama essayed by Amitabh Bachchan shows the veteran actor in an enigmatic incarnation of the immortal legend from Mahabharata.

Kalki 2898 AD inspired by the Hindi myth of Vishu’s yet-to-appear final incarnation, ‘Kalki’ is a Telugu-Hindi language sci-fi dystopian fiction. The movie spans over 6000 years from the Mahabharata.

The 21-second promo introducing AB as the immortal Ashwatthama opens up in a dark cave-like setting with a ‘shivling’ and two curious kids asking questions to Ashwatthama. Bachchan’s first glimpses are mysterious in a cloth-clad face with only his piercing eyes meeting the audience. Standing out is the bright sparkling gem studded in his forehead per the legend, a characteristic feature of his identity. Before the teaser reaches its end, he declares his identity “Since ancient times, I have awaited the arrival of the Avatar. I am Guru Drona’s son. Ashwatthama.” 

Sharing the still of his starking eyes with the rest of the face covered on Instagram, Bachchan wrote the caption “It’s been an experience for me like no other .. The mind to think such a product, the execution the exposure to modern technology and above all the company of colleagues with stratospheric Super star presence ..”

Bollywood Reacts 

Cheering his father’s spirit Abhishek Bachchan reacted to his Ashwatthama avatar in the movie. Amitabh Bachchan, who is 82 continues to marvel with his zeal and passion to perform and delivers a compelling and gripping performance. 

Abhishek shared the promo on his stories and penned “THE BOSS!!!!” tagging the actor. He also shared the poster of his look with a starry-eyed emoticon. 

Shweta Bachchan reposted the poster with a ‘baffled’ emoticon, fire emojis on the teaser, and commented “Just Amazing”. 

Deepika Padukone too hopped in to appreciate the promo teaser on her Instagram story to express her enthusiasm for the movie. DP is rumoured to play Prabhas’s wife in the movie in the role of Padma, the wife of Lord Kalki per the scriptures.

Directed by Nag Ashwin the movie is the most anticipated film of 2024 slated to release on 9 May 2024. It stars Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone in primary roles.
