Tamil movie Koozhangal has topped the chart of all 14 shortlisted movies, including Vicky Kaushal’s Udham Singh and Vidya Balan’s Sherni. Koozhangal will now represent and mark India’s official entry in the 94th Academy Award. Vignesh Shivan and Nayanthara's home banner, Rowdy Pictures, are producing the film, which is directed by PS Vinothraj. A 15 member panel in Kolkata reviewed all 14 shortlisted movies in Bijoli cinema, Bhowanipore. The 94th Academy Award will be hosted in March 2022 in the United States of America.

Story of Koozhangal:

The film is based on a real life incident which once occurred in director PS Vinotraj life. The film's story revolves around a young boy's bond with his alcoholic father. The son follows his father to get his mother back from her parent's house, who leaves the family after getting repeatedly abused. Vinoth claimed that he spent a lot of time hunting for a dry setting for the narrative, which he eventually discovered in Arittapati, Madurai, near Melur.

Before Koozhangal in 2016 Vetri Maaran's Visaranai marked the selection of India's official entry to Oscars from the Tamil film industry. There were 14 films competing for the Oscars this year. The 14 films included the Malayalam film Nayattu, the Tamil film Mandela, and the Hindi film Sardar Udham and Sherni. Director Vinot Raj also celebrated the success of the film and wrote, “There were 14 films competing for the Oscars this year.
