Know all about the ‘Made in India’ Red Carpet at Met Gala 2023

Met Gala 2023: The Met Gala, one of the biggest fashion occasions of the year, happened on Monday in New York City. The red carpet at the occasion was walked by several well-known celebrities from throughout the world. Many Indian celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Isha Ambani, Natasha Poonawalla, and fashion consultant Shloka Mehta's sister Diya Mehta Jatia also graced the occasion. You will be amazed to know that the iconic red carpet was actually made in India! Yes you heard that right!

Kerala-Based Company Designed the Met Gala 2023 Carpet 

The carpet was developed by Neytt by Extraweave, a design firm based in Kerala, India. It wasn't exactly red; it was beige with a scattering of red and blue patterns on it. 

Neytt shared the news on their official Instagram handle and captioned it, "A proud moment for our team to provide carpets to the Met Gala for the second time in a row. Contemporary design, woven with love, is rooted in Kerala. Made in India,"

According to reports, 58 30x4-metre rolls of carpet were used to create the 6960 square metre carpet. It took the workers a whopping 60 days to finish the carpet, which was made in accordance with the architect Tadao Ando's design.

Neytt by Extraweave- The Company Behind the Carpet 

The company uploaded a photo of the magnificent carpet from the event along with various anecdotes showing their success and the work put into making the carpet. The sisal fibre swirls that American designers painted on the carpet were woven into it by Keralan weavers over the course of 60 days.

Who are the founders of Neytt by Extraweave?

Neytt by Extraweave was founded by Nimisha Srinivas and Sivan Santhosh. While his father founded Extraweave, the parent company, 23 years ago, Neytt, the two-year-old company, was founded in 2021.
