Menstrual Cycle Explained: Maternal Fitness Educator and Speaker, Sucheta Pal unravels what goes inside the bodies of women during a menstrual cycle.

A menstrual cycle usually lasts for 28 to 25 days for different women, with four phases and 2 hormones playing a leading role. The four phases are divided on the basis of the intensity of the two hormones that are estrogen and progesterone. Periods is the phase when both the hormones are low, followed by a follicular phase that begins with the start of menstruation and ends with ovulation. Ovulation equates to high estrogen levels hence more energy. Following ovulation, the luteal phase begins and lasts until the start of the next period with increased levels of progesterone and hence a drop of energy.
