Met Gala 2024: Sabyasachi Mukherjee scripted history as the first Indian designer to walk the carpet at the Met Red Carpet 2024, while his magnificent designs have braced the event a couple of times.  Indians have been taking strides in their ‘crafted-in-India’ couture and fairy-like looks at the Met 2024. With the pioneering appearance of Sabyasachi at the Met, the event became monumental for the Indian fashion world and its designers.

Sabyasachi turns head in his fusion ensemble  

Sabyasachi is a name synonymous with his Indian fusion take on contemporary Indian designs crafted with a blend of traditional attires and jewelleries. For his debut at the Met, he stayed true to his characteristic design in a fusion ensemble featuring an open-buttoned sherwani coat worn like a shrug over a shirt and trousers with his signature belt and tinted shades. The coat was an “embroidered cotton duster coat from the Sabyasachi Resort 2024 collection.”

Attention quickly moves to his neck and torso covered in “tourmalines, pearls, emeralds, and diamonds from Sabyasachi High Jewellery '' layered luxuriously from chokers to full-length neckpieces. 

Designer and his designs shine at Met 2024

Alia Bhatt made her second appearance at the Met in a custom-made Sabyasachi mint-green saree embellished with intricate flowers all over the saree and its 23-foot-long train. Embroidered by 163 craftsmen from India, designed by none other than the Met debutant Mukherjee. The art and the artists' memes go too real.

With his exceptional craftsmanship and allure, Mukherjee took center stage after traversing a long journey from his designs to the designer finally finding a footing on the global fundraiser event.
