Mother’s Day 2025 Date

In many countries, including India, the United States, Canada, Australia, and parts of Europe, Mother’s Day is observed on the second Sunday of May. This means that in 2025, Mother’s Day will fall on Sunday, May 11th. This consistent timing allows for widespread participation and makes it easier for families to plan celebrations.

Mother’s Day History

Mother’s Day, as celebrated in many Western countries, dates back to the early twentieth century in the United States. Two major personalities played crucial roles in its formation. Ann Jarvis is widely credited with founding the movement.  Following her own mother’s death, she worked tirelessly to establish a special day to honour all moms. She organised the first Mother’s Day celebration in 1908 at St. Andrew’s Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia. She handed out white carnations, her mother’s favourite flower, which became an early symbol of the day. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson formally declared the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day in the United States, gaining popularity around the world.

Mother’s Day Significance

Mothers are the symbol of love, admiration, hard work and kindness. Mothers are the emotional anchors in families, offering love, care, and constant support. They impart ideals, foster dreams, and frequently make personal sacrifices for their children’s well-being. Mother’s Day is a special day to honour and recognise mothers’ invaluable contributions to their families and society. The day allows us to pause our busy lives and express our appreciation and gratitude for their unwavering contributions. It is a day to honour their courage, perseverance, and the significant influence they have on individuals and communities.
