Nuclear Tests Behind Back-To-Back Earthquakes In Pakistan? Expert Clarifies

Pakistan Nuclear Test:  An earthquake of magnitude 4.6 on the Richter scale shook Pakistan on Monday, marking the third earthquake in three days in the country. The epicenter of the quake was located around a prominent fault line in its Punjab province. 

However, the unusual natural event started a conversation online that speculated about Pakistan for its sinister intentions. Many asked whether these back-to-back earthquakes were natural or if the country had been testing nuclear bombs covertly. 

Dismissing the debate, the experts from the National Center of Seismology have clarified that nuclear tests are not the reason behind the tremors in Pakistan. Expert Mishra said, “Nuclear explosions have a distinct signature. A natural earthquake has two phases, while a nuclear explosion has a distinct tertiary phase. This is due to the reverberation of the surface following a nuclear explosion. Seismographs can detect this distinctly.”
