Operation Sindoor: What Is The Meaning And Symbolism Behind Its Name?

Operation Sindoor:  India launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of Wednesday, a retaliatory attack in the wake of the Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 people. 

Reports suggest that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has named the launch attack ‘Operation Sindoor’. Its meaning and symbolism resonate deeply resonating to all the women who lost their husbands at the hands of terrorists in Pahalgam. 

Sindoor or vermilion is a symbol of marital status and prosperity of a Hindu woman. Its significance is beyond adornment and holds cultural and traditional meaning. Operation Sindoor, hence, was a response to the lost ‘Sindoor’ of women in the Pahalgam attack.
