Wrestler Goonga Pehalwan:

Virendra Singh from Haryana, who is famous as “Goonga Pehalwan”, was seen furious even after receiving the country's fourth-highest award 'Padma Shri Award'. Virendra sat on a protest outside the residence of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, demanding equal rights for deaf and dumb para-athletes.

However, now the Chief Minister has probably agreed to accept their demands and has called the dumb wrestler to Chandigarh. Wrestler Virendra Singh himself gave this information on Twitter. Virendra Singh wrote on Twitter, “After a long time, I have got a call from Pankaj Nain Ji, Direct Sports and Youth Affairs of Haryana Government. He has spoken to the Chief Minister and has called me to Chandigarh tomorrow. If they talk about equal rights, then I will talk otherwise, tomorrow the protest will continue outside the CM House in Chandigarh itself.”

Why Virendra Singh is protesting?

The Padma Shri Award was presented to Wrestler Virender Singh by President Ram Nath Kovind and he was not happy even after receiving the country's fourth-highest award and made a demand from Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Virendra Singh had demanded equal rights for deaf and dumb para players like him in the state, for which he was sitting on a protest outside CM Khattar's residence in Delhi.

Virendra took to Twitter to show his anger:

It must be noted that Virendra Singh, a resident of the Jhajjar district in Haryana, cannot speak or hear. Virendra shared a post on Twitter on Wednesday, in which he was sitting on the footpath outside Haryana Bhawan with his Padma Shri, Arjuna Award, and other international medals. Pahalwan Singh wrote in the caption with this post, “Honorable Chief Minister ML Khattar, I am sitting on the footpath of your residence in Haryana Bhawan in Delhi and I will not move from here until you give equal rights to para sportspersons like deaf and mute people. When the central government gives us equal rights, why not you?”

After the Haryana CM Khattar had congratulated the 'Goonga Pehalwan' on receiving the Padma Shri award, to which he replied, “Chief Minister, if you consider me a para-athlete then why don't you give me all the rights of a para-athlete. For the last four years, I have been stumbling from time to time. I am still a junior coach and have not received any cash prize. Yesterday I also spoke to Prime Minister Modi about this, now the decision is in your hands.”
