The situation in Rajasthan's Kota division has worsened due to incessant rains and rising water level in rivers. After waterlogging at many places, people are being shifted to safer places. Schools are closed in four districts of the division - Kota, Baran, Jhalawar and Bundi, while an Indian Air Force helicopter has been called to help in the rescue operation in Baran district.
According to IMD, it has been raining heavily in Kota division for the last two days, due to which a flood-like situation has arisen in the low-lying areas. Due to heavy water logging, many villages have been engulfed by water. The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of very heavy rain in many districts of the state today, August 23.
There is an orange alert for rain in Udaipur, Sirohi, Pali, Jalore, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Baran and adjoining districts. While yellow alert of rain continues in Rajsamand, Nagaur and Jodhpur. The IMD said in its forecast that a new deep low pressure area has moved in a west-northwest direction over the Bay of Bengal and the coast of Bangladesh. Due to which the rain activities are increasing in the districts of Kota, Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has expressed concern over heavy rains in Kota division. Birla talked to the District Collector and the SP over the phone and took feedback of the situation. The Speaker of the Lok Sabha has instructed the officers not to take any kind of laxity. Along with this, instructions have also been given to ensure that there is no shortage of essential commodities and medicines in the affected areas.
