Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar:  The country's beaches are now strictly regulated by the national government. From July 3 through September 17, 2022, 75 beaches will be the subject of a cleaning campaign to accomplish this. Every year on the third Saturday in September, according to Union Minister Jitendra Singh, will be designated as International Coastal Cleanup Day. It falls on the 17th of September this year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday falls, coincidentally, on September 17. The nation-wide "Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" celebration is taking place in conjunction with the country's 75th anniversary of independence. According to Jitendra Singh, this day becomes even more unique in this regard.

Diverse evidence from Indian socio-spiritual traditions, literature, poetry, art, painting, and archaeology speak to the rich sea traditions of India. The natural resources of the sea and ocean have always supported human society. However, in recent years, plastic waste from land-based activities, tourism, and fishing has entered the shore and ocean via rivers and other waterways, posing a major threat to the marine ecosystem. The "Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Sagar" cleanliness campaign would be introduced this year, on September 17, 2022, throughout India's entire coastline.
