Weather Update: The water level of the Yamuna River in Delhi has risen dramatically, approaching the danger point and sparking fears of a flood. This comes after more than 50,000 cusecs of water were released from Haryana’s Hathinikund Barrage. As of Wednesday, the water level was 204.13 meters, just 1.2 meters below the defined danger limit. In response, the government has increased its surveillance efforts to handle the impending flood threat.
According to the Central Water Commission, this is the first time such a large volume (54,707 cusecs) has been released from the Hathinikund Barrage, and the water is expected to reach Delhi within 50 hours. If the Yamuna’s water level rises above the danger mark, many parts of Delhi will face flood-like situations. Additionally, low-lying places such as Manjnu ka Tila, Yamuna Vihar, Hathi Ghat, Sonia Vihar, and Yamuna Khadar may become flooded.
