Weird Fashion Trends: Fashion isn’t just about looking good—it’s about making a statement, even if that statement is, “What on earth am I looking at?” In this ever-evolving era of flaunting luxury with minimalist style, we as people have witnessed new “trends” taking the real and virtual world to storm, with some outrageously out-of-the-box fashion products. Some are cool, some are strange, and some are just plain bizarre. We’re talking about luxury fashion here, where designers sometimes come up with things that make us go, “Huh?”

One of the best examples of this is the newly launched Balenciaga bracelet that actually looks like a tape. Confused, right? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Priced at approximately $4,000 ( Rs 3.3 lakh), Balenciaga’s bracelet at Paris Fashion Week’s Fall/Winter 2024 collection looks like a roll of clear packing tape that will just go unnoticed if kept in a normal stationery store. Just like Balenciaga, we will be digging into some of the weirdest luxury products launched by renowned fashion houses that made us question what were the designers thinking at the time of making these products.

Balenciaga Tape Bracelet

The internet is currently divided into accepting the new fashion versus fooling people in the name of “fashion,” as Spanish brand Balenciaga recently launched a bracelet at the Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2024 collection, that looks like a tape roll, with “adhesive” written on it. The bracelet features a transparent material wrapped around a core, mimicking a roll of tape. The Balenciaga logo makes it a little bit recognizable, however, netizens are not accepting the minimalist approach of the brand, making people feel the brand’s forcing approach to stand out from the crowd.

Monkey Cap by Dolce & Gabbana

A ‘monkey cap’ is a common winter garment among Indians living in the north and east of the country. The unique woollen cap covers the entire head, leaving only the eyes visible. Taking this simple style to the luxury list, Dolce & Gabbana, an Italian luxury fashion house, introduced a Khaki-coloured monkey cap priced at Rs 40,000. You will also get a discount which will reduce the cost to Rs 31, 990.

Balenciaga Trash Bag

Balenciaga has always been the trendsetter for going way too down the line in making weird luxury products. Before the tape bracelet, the fashion house shocked people with its Trash Bag in 2022. According to the luxury fashion house, the large pouch’s design was inspired by a garbage bag. The Trash Pouch was first shown at Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia’s Winter 2022 show, just a few months before it was released. Priced at $1,790 (around Rs 1.5 lakhs), the bag is made of calfskin and comes in white, blue, and black.

Balenciaga Shoelace Earrings

In the same month its Trash Bag went on sale, Balenciaga released a one-of-a-kind pair of shoelace earrings made of recycled polyester and cotton, which turned heads and twisted our brains once again. The Balenciaga shoelace earrings are also made of antique silver brass and cost $261 (approx. Rs 20,750).

Balenciaga “Damaged” Sneaker Collection

Balenciaga shocked the fashion industry one after another in 2022 with a questionable collection of products. The brand's Paris Sneaker collection included shoes that appeared to be damaged beyond repair. The limited collection included 100 pairs of red, black, and white mule and high-top styles priced between $625 (around Rs 49,687) and $1,850 (around Rs 147,075). The fashion house was brutally trolled on social media platforms, with people expressing their displeasure with its new collection.

Satan Shoes

When we thought nothing could go beyond a trash bag, MSCHF, a Brooklyn art collective, collaborated with rapper Lil Nas X to release a line of Satan shoes, each with a single drop of human blood in the cushioning sole. Yes, one drop of human blood. What’s more surprising is that all 666 pairs, which cost $1,018 (approximately Rs 80,000), were sold in a minute! The sneakers are originally from Nike. However, the sportswear company never approved the customization, which prompted them to sue MSCHF.
