Operation Sindoor: Wing Commander Vyomika Singh is a trailblazing helicopter pilot of the Indian Air Force, who was among the two faces leading the media briefing on Operation Sindoor on Wednesday.
Operation Sindoor, launched on 7 May by the Indian forces, was a response to the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 innocents. India took part in a targeted military strike at nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, neutralising 89-90 terrorists reportedly.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh is a helicopter pilot of the Indian Air Force who came into the spotlight for leading the media briefing after Operation Sindoor alongside Colonel Sophia Qureshi and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.

Wing Commander Singh was meant for the sky, as her name means the ‘daughter of the sky’. As per media portals, Singh dreamed of being in the sky since she was a child, a dream she turned into a reality by pursuing it little by little every day.
Singh joined the National Cadet Corps as a stepping stone, bringing her closer to the sky, followed by getting a degree in Engineering.
The first person in her family to join the armed forces, Vyomika Singh was commissioned as a helicopter pilot in the Indian Air Force and received a permanent commission in the flying branch in December 2019.
Her feats of achievement include logging more than 2,500 flying hours in some of the most challenging terrains, including Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast. He is skilled in operating helicopters like the Cheetah and Chetak with meticulous precision and military grit.
Wind Commander Singh played an essential role in many rescue missions, including a major one that she led in Arunachal Pradesh in November 2020. These operations were held in high-altitude, difficult weather, and remote locations where air support is crucial for saving lives.
In 2021, she participated in a tri-services all-women mountaineering expedition to Mt. Manirang, at 21,650 feet. Her presence in the high-endurance mission reflected India’s growing involvement in defence roles and leadership. By leading the media briefing, she also proved that Indian defence force women are trained to tackle the enemy on the field and communicate with the civilians with resilience off the field.
