World Music Day 2025: Date

World Music Day 2025 will be observed on 21 June, coinciding with International Yoga Day 2025. 

It is also known as “Fête de la Musique” in French, meaning ‘make music’. The day is usually celebrated with musicians from across the genres and skills playing music outdoors for merrymaking and interacting with the people in the neighbourhood. 

It aims to appreciate the collective power of the art form that transcends the boundaries of language and culture to make it a universally available form of expression, bringing all under the same sky. 

World Music Day 2025 Theme 

Every year, a theme is picked on the occasion of World Music Day to spread awareness of the many roles of music and ways in which it contributes to the life of humans.

The theme for World Music Day 2025 is “Healing Through Harmony,” underscoring the significant role music plays in alleviating stress, tension, and work as a therapeutic form of art to help people in healing. 

The theme undermines the ways in which music is helping us towards a more harmonious and healthy future.

World Music Day History 

The tradition of celebrating World Music Day started in France in 1982. Jack Lang, the French Ministry of Culture, and music composer Maurice Fleure, a radio producer and a music journalist, in 1981 came up with the idea of dedicating a day to the role of music and the mere pleasure it brings. 

In 1982, the first Fête de la Musique was celebrated with more than 1000 musicians coming together to perform across the city. 

Since then, the celebration has become a global phenomenon with more than 120 countries participating in it as of today. 

World Music Day Significance 

Music is a universally binding form of expression. World Music Day allows musicians and music artists from across the world to showcase their skills and talents in the open spaces to bring communities together and allow them to cross the thresholds of differences for the sole purpose of appreciating music as an art form and bringing people closer together.
